Aircraft Ground Power Units

Aztec is a leading manufacturer and distributor of ground power units for the military and  the general aviation industry. Aztec’s GPUs are ideal for both small aircraft and wide-body airliners as well as for military jet fighters.

Manufactured both locally and overseas, Aztec’s range of GPUs includes both 28V DC and 400Hz AC systems as well as combinations thereof.

Aztec’s 400Hz static frequency converters are state-of-the-art machines that weigh less than half that of conventional rotary machines, contain almost no moving parts, require little or no maintenance, are compact and are almost completely silent.

Aztec’s Kwik Start range of hugely powerful 28V DC GPUs are both battery and mains powered thus offering the operator the convenience of a portable flight-line unit.

The Circonian GPU, developed in conjunction with Barloworld Umndeni Circon, is a vehicle based rotary AC and DC GPU powered by an independent four cylinder turbo charged engine driving a 400Hz alternator. Operated by the SAAF, it was used to supply ground power to the USA’s $325m presidential aircraft, Air Force One.

All of Aztec’s ground power units conform to MIL-STD-704 and are available in both military and civilian configurations. They are capable of delivering extremely high starting currents in order to provide quick and cool turbine starts and are available in different sizes ranging from small man-portable units to large, vehicle mounted units.
